This hybrid conference will serve as a platform for geoscientists, researchers and industry professionals to come together to discuss the impact climate change is having upon the environment and how society can mitigate the changes.
This conference follows our series of regional events that took place around the UK, starting in Plymouth on 2 October 2024. Regional events were co-hosted by the Society and the various host institutions and features a topical research seminar by a local expert in their field, followed by a panel discussion. Topics of discussion ranged from climate impacts upon the world's oceans, to those on land and in our atmosphere.

The Call for abstracts is open, and the deadline for submitting abstracts is 7th July.
We encourage abstracts on the following themes:
Past environmental change and impacts: timescales, magnitudes, feedbacks, and sensitivity
Sediments, fossils, geochemical proxies, palaeontological records, palynology, and other environmental indicators capture major environmental events and their impact on life — from rapid climate shifts to long-term transitions. This theme is about the pace and scale of change, how Earth systems have responded in the past, and understanding what this reveals about thresholds, feedbacks, and Earth system sensitivity today.
Detecting environmental impact in landscapes
Environmental change is ongoing across the land surface, coasts, and cryosphere. This theme considers how these changes are observed (remotely and in the field) and how they affect the biota and our society. It’s about using long-term datasets, remote sensing, and modelling to understand how the Earth is changing right now - and why.
Resource security and risk
The ability to sustain a supply of key resources is a fundamental element of ongoing environmental and societal challenges. This theme considers the ways that we can understand and monitor resource quantity, quality and availability, as well as the way that environmental risk impacts these.
Socio-environmental impacts of climate change
The socio-environmental impacts of climate change are many and varied. This theme considers factors that affect communities and ecosystems, at varied scales, where climate and environmental change impacts both human activities and biodiversity.
Climate change mitigation, adaptation and remediation
The consequences of climate change are far reaching, and efforts to cope with these changes are varied. This theme focusses on possible approaches to mitigating changing climate to limit its impact, adapting to instances where climate change has already impacted communities, or where possible, focussing efforts to reverse the effects of that environmental change.
